Nouveau Haiti Project

April 10, 2010 Update

Monty Hart and Water Filters

Monty Hart has been volunteering in Haiti for many years.  His two main projects have been helping to provide clean water through the distribution of water filters, and the development of goat-rearing as a source of food and income for rural Haitians.

The water purification filters are made and distributed by Sawyer (sawyerpointonefilters.com). The filters can purify 500 gallons of water a day.  They use no electricity or power, simply gravity.  They last up to 2 million gallons.  They are very good and easy to use.  The cost is now $25 each (a special price for Haiti).

Through the generosity of our donors, we were able to send Monty $300 in March for the purchase of a dozen filters to distribute to families in need.

Alison Thompson, RN

Alison is a nurse and film-maker.  She made a documentary called “The Third Wave” about her work in Sri Lanka after the tsunami.  We met her when she came to Colorado College to show the film and discuss the need for direct person-to-person action in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Shortly after the earthquake in Haiti, she responded by volunteering with JP-HRO at a medical clinic.  She is still actively engaged there and we sent her $200 to use as necessary to help the Haitians.  She has been too busy nursing to shoot any video, but another videographer has made a short video with Alison in it.

New Vue has entered the Haiti challenge with our “Nouveau Haiti” project. Our initial focus is to execute deployment of desperately needed fresh water in Haiti by providing logistic and site support for water filtration equipment already on the ground. These assets represent the capacity to process over 23,000 gallons of fresh water per day.  Indeed, a first priority mission. “Nouveau Haiti” is coordinating contact with the first team members to arrive on Monday, January18th.

Our project manager, a seasoned resident of Haiti, has been engaged in various Haitian project operations since 1992. We anticipate the requests for assistance to be ongoing and dynamic where our expertise will be to connect direct providers with direct implementation of critical projects. Additional projects of near-term interest include combined-use community fishing vessels and very small-scale coastal cargo operations.

The structure of the “Nouveau Haiti” project is designed to deliver on-the-ground action within days of funding for specific projects.

We can receive PayPal funds NOW for this water purification and artisanal fishing for high protein foods.  We are working with local Haitians and international organizations already. We actively solicit commitments to our secure PayPal account - all funds committed to NewVue are going to “Nouveau Haiti” until further notice and are tax deductible.

We look forward to collaborating with larger aid agencies in the long-term, but in the short-term, we can execute these projects more quickly due to our direct contact with key local representatives.

This project will provide clean water within HOURS for many needy people.

Thank you on behalf of the families and organizations New Vue serves.
